Background

This website has been created to assist in the implementation of Ireland’s 3rd National Biodiversity Action Plan, particularly with regard to public engagement.

The work of the Plan very much builds on the momentum of the first two Plans and continues to move us towards our vision for biodiversity –

“that biodiversity and ecosystems in Ireland are conserved and restored, delivering benefits essential for all sectors of society and that Ireland contributes to efforts to halt the loss of biodiversity and the degradation of ecosystems in the EU and globally”.

Many of the targeted actions in the Plan also contribute towards Ireland’s obligations under EU environmental directives.

This new Plan has undergone an extensive consultation process with stakeholder Departments and agencies across Government throughout its preparation via the inter-departmental Biodiversity Working Group. It was also developed in consultation with the Biodiversity Forum, representing the various sectors of society.
